Chrysler's response to the Ford Mustang

Introduced in 1969, the Dodge Challenger was a late response to the Ford Mustang, the car that started the pony car hype in the 60's. The famous 'Pony Car Wars' of the late 60's were dominated by the Ford Mustang, Mercury Cougar, AMC Javelin, Plymouth Barracuda and of course the well known Chevrolet Camaro. Dodge introduced the Challenger later and according to them it was 'the most potent' pony car ever.
1970 was the first model year for the Challenger and the R/T was their top model. On top of that, this example is a SE (or Special Edition). The SE adds a number of appearance, convenience and comfort features including a smaller 'formal' rear window, vinyl roof, leather bucket seats and an overhead interior console that contained 3 warning lights. This is basically the most luxurious Challenger money could buy in 1970. Now imagine a beautifully maintained 'Medium Blue Metallic' color on top of that and there it is: Right here in our showroom!

Upgraded with a 440 6-pack

But we are not finished yet. There is more! Although a lot on this R/T SE is original or restored, there are a few upgrades as well. Originally, this was equipped with a 383 N-Code engine. This has been upgraded with a '69 440-6 pack equipped with a Holley 6-pack setup. Recently the engine has been tested on the dyne and it put out a remarkable 470 HP at the crank, equating to 360 HP at the rear wheels! It features a TTI ceramic-coated header with full exhaust system delivering a clean and powerful V8 sound.
The transmission is a 727 3-speed automatic and the rear axle is a 8 3/4 axle with street gearing.
There is no clear data on performance figures but mid 5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h will be pretty accurate and a top speed of around 160-170km/h can be easily reached.
